Stylus Singers is a mixed choir that is the highest level choral ensemble at DRHS and consists of 10th-12th grade students. Students in this course will sing advanced, college level music throughout the year. This choir sings for a variety of community and school events as well as having an active caroling season in December. This ensemble requires a high level of commitment as there are many afterschool rehearsals and performances that are part of the student’s grade. To be placed in this choir, students must demonstrate healthy vocal production, sing a major and minor triad, sing a major scale, sing a chromatic scale, sing tonal patterns as well as be interviewed and tested in sight reading.
Solstice is an intermediate auditioned women’s choir that is the highest level women’s ensemble at DRHS and consists of 9th-12th grade students. Solstice focuses on healthy vocal production, development in sight reading skills, and development in their musical ear/listening. This ensemble will occasionally perform outside of the standard concert requirements and will be part of their grade. To be placed in this choir, students must demonstrate healthy voice production and demonstrate strong listening skills in regards to pitch.
Treble Choir is a non-auditioned all-women’s choir that is open to women from 9th-12th grade who wish to gain more vocal experience and confidence in choral singing. This course will focus on singing simple harmony and sustaining vocal lines independently. A variety of music will be used to teach the principles of proper vocal techniques as well as basic musicianship. This course, if done with 100% effort, will prepare the student for auditions and an opportunity to be a part of a more advanced ensemble.
Panther Voices is a non-auditioned all men’s choir that is an introductory class for men with little or no previous choral experience. This class is open to all men from 9th-12th grade that wish to gain more vocal experience and confidence in choral singing. The class will focus on healthy vocal production, sight singing, music theory, singing with good choral tone, as well as establishing rehearsal norms and etiquette. This course, if done with 100% effort, will prepare the student for their audition for Stylus Singers.
